Developed for growers who want a compost-based soil mix with the handling and watering characteristics of a peat-perlite mix. A complete germinating and growing-on mix, Fort Light is particularly desirable for growers using smaller celled plastic flats or where light weight is preferred. Usually no additional fertility required until the roots fill the soil mix. When roots have filled container, top dress with Compost Plus and water in. Blended from manure compost, perlite, bone char, mined gypsum, sphagnum peat moss, kelp, blood meal.
Uses
• For landscape and gardening applications
• Used as a germinating mix, for growing vegetables, annuals, and transplanting houseplants
• An excellent soil for hanging baskets
• Similar to Fort Vee but without any crushed granite and the vermiculite is replaced by perlite
We have among our customers those who grow a full range of varieties in Fort Vee and others who use Fort Light exclusively.

Best Practices
Prep for use: Wet product at least a few hours prior to planting or blocking. This allows the product to more readily absorb water and not wash out of the pots or trays on initial watering.
Handling: Do not let the product over dry or get waterlogged. Store under cover, out of direct sunlight. Protect from weed seeds and animals.
Supplemental Fertility: None necessary until the roots fill the pot and/or six weeks from planting. Supplement with Compost Plus.
Storage and Shelf Life: Store in a cool neither dry nor wet place to maintain moisture content. Product should be used within 12 months from date of purchase; older product may still be good if it has not over dried or gotten wet.
